As our country approaches an important election, Tellin’ Tales Theatre explores a subject that transcends politics—Peace. Our six apprentices and their adult mentors embody the people in the trenches who create peace—Mother Teresa, Greg Mortensen, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., an American solider, and the kids next door in Six Stories Up in Peace. This riveting and often hilarious production is completely written, performed and produced by adults and children with and without disabilities.

About the Mentoring Program
Six Stories Up in Peace is the final product of an annual mentoring program developed by Tellin' Tales Theatre, now in its eleventh year. In August, six storytellers were paired with six middle school students with and without disabilities. Each team was given the mission to write a ten-minute vignette based on a different route to peace, including mediation, passive resistance, loving unconditionally, education and action. In early September, mentors and their apprentices came together to link the six vignettes and draft a final script. All twelve participants will perform Six Stories Up in Peace under the direction of Artistic Director, Tekki Lomnicki.

About the Cast and Crew
The cast and production team of Six Stories Up in Peace is an exciting mix of race, ability and age. Mentors include Sarah Burnside, Steven Donart, Judith Harding, Matthew Kopp, Tekki Lomnicki and Mary Mrugalski. Apprentices include Rashad Foster, Nate Shapiro, Colleen Shelton, Alexis Smith, Max Wiersum and Ashley Zunkel. Renowned Chicago artist David Csiscko spearheads set design; mask designers, Matthew Wycislak and Justin Goh are apprenticed by Demetrius Arhontas; and composers, Brad Decker and Jack Rossiter-Munley create the original score.

About Tellin’ Tales Theatre
Tellin’ Tales Theatre’s mission is to build community through the art of storytelling. Tekki Lomnicki, Artistic Director, has led storytelling programs with Gallery 37 and After School Matters for ten years. The idea for the initial Six Stories Up (performed in 1998 at the Blue Rider Theater) came from her work with these programs, which included children with and without disabilities. Lomnicki, herself a person with a disability, decided to take the process a step further to include other adults with disabilities in mentoring roles. Six Stories Up in Peace is a result of this mix, and strives to remove all barriers between artists, including age, race, gender, ability and disability.

Six Stories Up in Peace is geared toward both adults and children. Kids age five and up will understand and enjoy it. The show runs approximately 75 minutes without an intermission.
